State Trauma and Emergency Care System
The West Virginia Trauma and Emergency Medical System was mandated by West Virginia Code §64-27-1 to designate various health care facilities in the State of West Virginia as meeting specific levels of care capability as trauma and emergency care centers or facilities in order to identify those facilities best equipped and staffed to care for patients experiencing emergency injuries.

Senator Klempa and Delegate Armstead were chosen as the Mountain State Trauma and Injury Prevention Coalition Senator of the Year, 2011 and "Delegate of the Year" for 2011 respectively. This award is given to the Senator and Delegate who the Coalition feels have worked to promote injury prevention and trauma care for the citizens of West Virginia in the legislative arena.
The Coalition is comprised of members from trauma centers throughout West Virginia (trauma physicians, emergency physicians, trauma nurses, trauma registrars, and injury prevention coordinators.)
